MILESTONE BIRTHDAYS AROUND THE WORLD

Earlier this summer, my friend Heidi asked me to make two very special cards. She had a plan to surprise her good friends with an unexpected visit to celebrate their 95th and 80th birthdays. “I really can’t find a card that says happy 95th birthday”, she explained. The market is a bit limited for that milestone, I guess.

So I asked her a bit more about her friends. Turns out they are in Austria, and love the mountain scenery, flower gardens and their Austrian environment. So for him, I chose to use the beautiful and versatile Waterfront Stamp Set, as a base for a watercolour landscape, framed with copper foil Heirloom Frame dies and 3D embossing folders. An appropriate name for the occasion. I added the copper foil numbers 9 and 5 to celebrate such an important milestone birthday.

For her 80th birthday, I was inspired by Jackie Bultje’s magnificent design of a double point card with the Floral Essence Designer Series Paper. Instead of a saying, I cut out the 8 and the 0 in coordinated Petal Pink card stock.

Since they speak German, I was not able to stamp the sentiments, but instead printed my friend’s personal greeting on cardstock and layered it on the inside of both cards. She said they were surprised to see her “pop over” for their birthday celebration, half-way across the globe, and added that they absolutely loved their cards.

Never underestimate the power of a handmade card (and a plane ticket to Europe) !
